I am in love with color. I am not inhibited or intimidated by it. Color makes me feel alive. It makes me feel happy. I can lose myself in color.
I have never wanted mediocrity. This was evident as a teenager sewing my wardrobe in outrageous bold colors. Even though I’m a very private person, I have always strived to be different and true to who I am. This shows in my paintings, where I enjoy being outside the box - using color in bold, uncompromising ways. I guess some things never change. Fearlessly experimenting and playing with paint, mixed media and other materials is where I find my bliss, my joy. The magic is found in never having a plan, intuitively following where it leads. My abstracts are an expression of emotion and my inner world, laced with a desire to connect with you, the viewer.
I have learned to play, making shapes on canvas, making stencils, and creating my own collage papers to use in my mixed media paintings. It feels like night and day from where I began with watercolour, graduating onto realism in acrylics. It's now all about being open to possibilities. It's liberating and fun and I absolutely love being in that state of creating.
My home studio is in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Throughout the years, I have honed my art by taking numerous workshops, ever curious to learn something new. In 2014, I took a six year hiatus from all creativity, not intending to ever paint again. Fortunately the desire returned as I searched for something shiny and new. I found that in an online workshop with a brilliant artist and this catapulted me back to where I wanted to be -- feeling the passion.
Since that time, I have become involved with three artists' communities, one of which paints together weekly. This is something new for me, having always painted solitary in the past. Since reclaiming my passion, it feels like my world has exploded with opportunities. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Kelowna Palette Club and On The Edge Collective.
